Importance of Labor Board of San Diego

By admin | June 4, 2009

No matter where you live, the state labor board of San Diego is probably hopelessly underfunded, overworked, and disorganized. Many of my fellow employers view this as a benefit. It means, for one thing, that they are much less likely to be subject to random labor board inspections, fines, fees, and the like. In reality, however, this is not the case. Labor law, you see, doesn’t just protect employees.

If you think about it, it protects employers as well. In my workplace, I have labor law posters everywhere. They are not just to remind workers, but to remind me too. By ensuring that I stay up to date on OSHA standards, acknowledge labor rights, and make sure that my workplace is free of any type of discrimination or harassment, I protect the future security of my business.

Sometimes, after all, it only takes one lawsuit to shut you down. Your job is to make sure that lawsuit never comes. All state California labor board will make pamphlets available that cover the basics of workplace safety and regulations. Knowing the rules, however, is not enough. Even requiring that your workers are up to date on the rulings of the CA labor board is not enough. You have to make sure that these workplace rules are inescapable – that they are everywhere, and that every worker knows what is required of him or her.

That way, if the law is broken and an injury or some other unfortunate workplace event results, you are not to blame. You must always make sure to do your part to the best of your ability. Otherwise, you could be held legally culpable. There are other compliance tools you can use as well. After awhile, workplace safety posters tend to get ignored. People are so used to seeing them that they tune them out like anything else. That is why you should organize your own inspections – preferably by an outside source.

An outsider can give you a fresh perspective on how safe and worker friendly your workplace is, and what you can do to make things better. The outside inspector does not have to report to the San Diego national labor board, so you are free from any possible legal repercussions. Basically, it is a way to guarantee that everything is working as it should. In this atmosphere of cost-cutting and downsizing, one of the most important rules of business is often forgotten: it pays to stop big problems before they start.
